Resist Mental and Physical Stress with Ashwaghandha?

door Boris Paul Roelandt op Feb 07, 2023

What is Ashwaghandha?

Ashwagandha is a key herb in Ayurveda, a traditional form of alternative medicine based on Indian principles of natural healing. For thousands of years, people have used ashwagandha to relieve stress, boost energy, and improve concentration. "Ashwagandha" is Sanskrit for "horse smell," referring to both the herb's scent and its potential to increase strength. Withania somnifera is its botanical name, and it is also known by several other names, including "Indian ginseng" and "winter cherry."

Ashwagandha is traditionally used as an adaptogen that is believed to help the body resist physical and mental stress.

The benefits of ashwaghanda

If you’re skeptical about herbal medicine, you probably haven’t considered ashwagandha. That’s OK. We’re going to do the legwork for you. We’ll cover the basics and some medically proven benefits of using ashwagandha.

So what does ashwagandha do?

The plant extracts have several health benefits, such as helping to calm the brain, reducing inflammation and swelling, lowering blood sugar and blood pressure, increasing muscle strength and fertility. Research shows that it helps as follows:
  • Normalizes cortisol levels, which reduces the stress response.
  • Reduces inflammation.
  • Reduces cancer risks.
  • Improves memory.
  • Improves immune function and anti-aging properties.
  • Facilitates stress and anxiety.
While the side effects of ashwagandha are minimal, some people may experience side effects from abundant intake, such as
  • Gastrointestinal upset.
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting and nausea.

Different circumstances which require caution when it comes to using ashwagandha include if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have an autoimmune disease. In these cases, GIMMY encourages talking to your healthcare provider before taking anything.

How can Ashwagandha help you?

Consuming ashwagandha will not take the stress away, but it may help reduce the symptoms so one feels more at ease. Adding Ashwagandha to your daily habits and intake can help you cope with external impulses and put things into perspective better.

This is where GIMMY comes in! We promote physical and mental wellbeing therefore we added ashwagandha to two of our products:
